It's shaping up to be a busy summer travel season. Most Americans (95%) are planning to travel as much or more than last summer, according to the Summer Travel Index released by TripAdvisor.

If you're planning a trip for this summer or later in the year, you could make it happen for less with a travel credit card. The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a popular choice, and now is a great time to apply for it. Chase recently increased the welcome offer, so you could earn $1,125 back, but only for a limited time.

How to get $1,125 in value with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is currently running a limited-time welcome offer of 75,000 bonus points for spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. All you need to do is open this credit card, meet the spend requirement, and you'll receive the bonus points within six to eight weeks.

As far as how you can use those Chase points, you'll have several options. You could:

  • Redeem your points for cash back. You get a value of $0.01 per 1 point, so 75,000 points are worth $750. Not bad, but it's possible to do much better.
  • Use your points for a Chase Travel booking. With the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, you get a value of $0.015 per point (50% more than the cash back rate). At that value, 75,000 bonus points are worth $1,125 in travel.
  • Transfer your points to a Chase partner. Chase has partnerships with over a dozen airlines and hotels, including United, Hyatt, and Southwest. When you transfer points, the value you get for them depends on the travel you end up booking with that airline or hotel partner.

To get the most value for your points, I'd recommend one of the travel redemptions. If you want to keep it simple, you can always redeem your points through Chase Travel. You'll get $1,125 in value from the welcome offer this way.

It's more complicated to transfer your points to Chase's travel partners, but you could get even more value for them. I've scored incredible deals by transferring Chase points to Hyatt for hotel stays and to airlines for business-class airfare. More features of the Chase Sapphire Reserve®

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a premium travel card with a premium price tag. The annual fee is $550, so it's aimed at travelers who don't mind spending some money for a card with lots of travel perks.

Here's a rundown of some of its most valuable benefits:

  • A $300 annual travel credit -- this applies to just about any type of travel purchase you make with your card
  • Complimentary airport lounge access with Priority Pass for the cardholder and up to two guests
  • Up to $100 every four years as reimbursement for a Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS membership fee
  • 3x to 10x points per $1 in bonus categories
  • Partner offers with Lyft, DoorDash, and Instacart

Even though this Chase credit card costs $550 per year, you'll get $300 back if you use the annual travel credit. That brings the true cost down quite a bit to $250. You're also getting plenty of other benefits, including unlimited access to Priority Pass airport lounges.

You may want to review our guide to this Chase card's benefits to learn more about what it offers. If you're looking for a more affordable option, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has a $95 annual fee and the same limited-time welcome offer.

A valuable welcome offer from one of the top travel cards

It may have a high annual fee, but the Chase Sapphire Reserve® can also help you save big on travel if you're able to use its benefits. Chase hasn't released information on how long this new welcome offer will last. So if you're interested in this card, it's a good idea to apply soon.
