Robinhood Promotions of 2024

Robinhood likes to offer limited-time promotions to members and non-members. Below are its current promotions, including how much you could earn.

How you earn it: Transfer cash, securities, and options from an outside broker into Robinhood. You must transfer into a Robinhood non-retirement investing account and keep the transferred money (plus the 1% match) in your account for two years.

How you qualify: New and current customers qualify. To receive the 1% match, you must initiate the transfer between April 30, 2024 and June 28, 2024. It's okay if the transfer settles after the end date -- what's important is you begin the transfer between these dates. Importantly, you only qualify by making ACATs transfers from other brokers, which means you don't earn this bonus by transferring money from your checking account into Robinhood.

Details: You earn a 1% bonus with no cap on top of your transfers. If you deposit $1,000,000, you'd get $10,000 matched. Note that you can't cheat the system by transferring money out and then back into Robinhood; Robinhood keeps track of that, and it doesn't count toward your 1% match. Another thing to watch out for is if your transfer fails to settle. Robinhood only pays you a 1% match if your transfer successfully settles into your account.

Brokerages typically charge you fees to transfer money out, potentially eating into your bonus. Robinhood addresses this by offering to cover up to $75 of transfer fees when you transfer $7,500 or more. You've got to contact Robinhood to request the reimbursement.

How you earn it: Sign up for one month of Robinhood Gold.

How you qualify: Open a Robinhood brokerage account.

Details: Robinhood Gold offers members a handful of perks for a $5 monthly cost. Some of the biggest include a boosted APY on uninvested brokerage deposits and better margin rates. Robinhood Gold members pay no interest on the first $1,000 they borrow; however, members who let their free trial expire will immediately begin accruing interest on that money.

If you don't want to pay monthly fees on Robinhood after your free trial expires, make sure to repay any margin you've borrowed. Your Robinhood Gold membership renews automatically, so if you want to cancel, you must do so manually.

How you earn it: Refer 10 friends to Robinhood Gold. They must sign up for the Robinhood Gold Card waitlist through your referral link before subscribing to Robinhood Gold. Referred customers must pay for the first month of Robinhood Gold (the free trial doesn't count).

How you qualify: Sign up for the Robinhood Gold Card waitlist. Robinhood will send you an invite code via email or through your Robinhood app. You do not need to be a Robinhood user or Robinhood Gold member to sign up for the waitlist and win a prize.

Details: Anyone can qualify by signing up for the Robinhood Gold Card waitlist; it's not exclusive to Robinhood users. So long as friends (1) sign up for the waitlist through your link and (2) subscribe to Robinhood Gold through your link, you can win. You can win even if you and your referrals aren't approved for the credit card. If you win but are not approved for the card, you'll get the $1,100 cash equivalent prize instead of the solid gold card.

Speaking of prizes, the card is 10 karat gold and weighs 36 grams. It's a usable credit card that functions like the typical stainless steel Robinhood Gold Card. Overachievers beware, you can only win once. Also, if you lose your solid gold card, there are no replacements. Your prize counts as taxable income. Only the first 5,000 participants to refer 10 qualified customers will earn a prize, so speed matters.

Offer expires: Once the first 5,000 participants successfully refer 10 qualified customers or Robinhood ends it. Robinhood says it will notify participants ASAP once this promo ends.

How you earn it: Refer a friend to Robinhood Crypto. In the app, share your referral link. Your friend must use the link and get approved for a new account. Once your friend is approved, you and your friend will each earn $5 to $50 in Bitcoin. You and your friend must hold the reward for at least 30 days, otherwise Robinhood may revoke your reward. To earn the bonus, your friend must be approved by Robinhood before the offer expires.

How you qualify: Refer a friend to Robinhood Crypto. Your friend must be new to Robinhood Crypto.

Details: You earn $5 to $50 in Bitcoin. There is a 98% chance of earning $5 to $10, a 1% chance of earning $11 to $20, a 0.5% chance of earning $21 to $40, and a 0.5% chance of earning $41 to $50 worth of Bitcoin. So you will probably earn no more than $10 per referral unless you get very lucky. You can refer up to 10 friends to Robinhood Crypto and earn this bonus for each friend you refer successfully. This bonus is taxable.

How you earn it: Refer friends to Robinhood. In the app, select "Earn Stock." Send invites to contacts or share your referral link to earn. On the desktop, select "Rewards" and share your referral link to earn. You'll get $5 to $200 of gift stock when a friend signs up, gets approved, and links their bank account or debit card. Be sure to claim it within 60 days, or else it expires.

How you qualify: Check your reward eligibility. If you see the correlated promotional screen, you are eligible.

Details: You earn $5 to $200 gift stock per referral. There is a 99% chance of earning $5, 1% of earning $10 or more, and a 0.1% chance of earning $200. The max you can earn is $1,500 per calendar year. Once you claim a gift stock, you must hold it for three trading days before selling. To withdraw your gift amount from Robinhood, you must wait 30 days.

It's pretty straightforward -- once a friend links their bank account, both members get free stock. Most people will earn $5 worth of stock per referral. Some will earn more, but they're the exceptions to the rule. These days, Robinhood lets you pick which stock to apply your referral reward toward instead of picking a stock at random -- and referral money can be used to purchase fractional shares.

The 1% match is strong and flexible compared to other bonuses; it's competitive for deposits as low as $10 and as high as $1,000,000 or more. Most brokers cap bonus minimums and maximums, but Robinhood doesn't cap this one. It's one of the best transfer bonuses out there.

Opening a new account elsewhere can earn you a bigger cash bonus. For example, if you only have $50 to invest, you could open an account with Charles Schwab and earn $101 (while the promo lasts). It's typically easier to earn bonuses on small deposits when opening new accounts. That said, opening an additional brokerage account may not be right for you.

They're not for everyone, and the Robinhood Gold subscription auto-renews. Don't pay $5 a month for something you never use.

Robinhood Gold Card Referral Bonus: Consider chasing this bonus if the following is true: (1) Your friends would benefit from paying for Robinhood Gold, and (2) you know at least 10 people who might benefit. Otherwise, your chances of earning a solid gold credit card before the promo expires are slim.
