60,000 bonus points

  • The enormous welcome bonus (worth $750), bonus points for travel and dining, and $50 annual hotel credit alone make this card well worth the $95 annual fee. What really stands out are the rare travel protections such as trip delay reimbursement, lost luggage reimbursement, and trip cancellation/interruption insurance. It’s one of the only low annual fee cards we’ve seen offer those protections.

1. $50 annual hotel credit

Want to save on your next hotel visit? With this Chase card, you earn up to $50 in statement credits each account year for hotel stays purchased through Chase Travel.

If you stay in hotels at least once a year, you probably won't have any trouble using this credit. Chase Travel is easy to use and works like other online travel portals. Plug in where you're going and your travel dates, and then choose the hotel you want.

The statement credit is automatically applied within one to two billing cycles. If you book a $250 hotel stay through Chase Travel with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you'll get a $50 credit.

2. Bonus rewards on travel, online grocery orders, and streaming

Many of the best travel cards have bonus categories. There aren't many that match the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card in terms of variety, though. It earns:

  • 5X points on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠ (excluding hotel purchases that qualify for the $50 annual hotel credit)
  • 2x points on other travel purchases
  • 3x points on dining, including takeout and eligible delivery services
  • 3x points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs)
  • 3x points on select streaming services
  • 1x points on other purchases

You can find all these bonus categories individually on other cards. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the only one I've seen that combines them all. The best part is how it earns bonus rewards on travel-centric categories and everyday purchases, such as online grocery orders and streaming services.

3. 10% annual points bonus on purchases made

This Chase card is great for earning rewards, and not just because of all its bonus categories. Each account anniversary, you'll also earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year.

Let's say you spend a total of $50,000 on purchases during that time. With this bonus, you'd earn another 5,000 points. You get $0.0125 per point if you use them to make bookings via Chase Travel, so you could get $62.50 in value from an extra 5,000 points.

If you want the Chase Sapphire Preferred, don't wait

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is an excellent travel card. It earns a lot of points, and it gives you several ways to use those points. You can redeem them as cash for travel bookings with Chase Travel. Or, you can transfer points to any of Chase's airline and hotel partners. I've saved thousands on business-class airfare and Hyatt hotel bookings this way.

The limited-time welcome offer on this card won't last much longer. The end date hasn't been made public yet, but Chase has put an ominous "offer ending soon" on the card page. So if you think this is the right credit card for you, I'd recommend applying ASAP.
