The information related to Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card has been collected by The Motley Fool and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer or provider of this product or service.

Your Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card credit limit is the maximum balance you can carry on it. Not only does it determine how much you can spend on purchases, it also determines the amount you can bring over using balance transfers.

What is the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card's credit limit?

The Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card credit limit starts at $500 and can range over $10,000 for the most creditworthy borrowers. According to Citi, it bases your credit limit on the following:

  • Your annual salary and wages
  • Any other annual income
  • A review of your debt

Citi sets your credit limit when it approves you for the card. For that reason, there's no way of knowing exactly what your credit limit will be before you apply. You're more likely to get approved for a high limit if you have a good or excellent credit score and high income. That also makes it more likely that your application is approved for top credit cards like this one.

How your Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card credit limit affects balance transfers

The best perk of the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card is its balance transfer offer. It has a 0% intro APR for 21 months on balance transfers, which makes it great for refinancing credit card debt. You must complete balance transfers in the first four months for them to qualify for the intro rate. This card also has a 0% intro APR on purchases for 12 months from account opening. In both cases, the go-to 18.24% - 28.99% (Variable) APR applies after the intro period ends.

If you open this Citi credit card to help pay off credit card debt, your balance transfers can't exceed your credit limit. Keep in mind that the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card also charges a balance transfer fee of 5% ($5 min.), whichever is greater.

Let's say you have $5,000 in credit card debt that you want to transfer over. The balance transfer fee would be $250 (5% of $5,000). You would need a credit limit of at least $5,250 to be able to transfer over all your credit card debt.
