The rewards may be the big draw for this card, but it isn't the only thing that makes it stand out. Another great thing about the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card is that there is no annual fee. Like rewards, this is an uncommon perk for a secured credit card. Some secured cards charge annual fees up to $49 -- or even more. So you won't waste money on annual fees while waiting to move up to an unsecured card.
Secured credit cards are meant to build credit -- but then what? Instead of having a secured card forever, or having to close your account, the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card can graduate to an unsecured credit card. This happens automatically when U.S. Bank feels you're ready. Your deposit will be fully refunded to you when you are upgraded to an unsecured card.
The best way to qualify is to pay your bill on time every month and keep your credit card balance low.

Although it has a lot of perks, this card does have some downsides worth noting.
As a secured credit card, the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card does require a deposit to open. Your credit limit will be equal to the size of the deposit. The minimum deposit for the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card is $300. This is higher than that for many similar secured cards. Some cards have deposits as low as $49. A $200 minimum deposit is typical.
On the other hand, the maximum deposit amount is $5,000, which is also fairly high for a secured card. This could potentially unlock a credit limit of up to $5,000.
The U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card doesn't offer any kind of new cardholder offer. This means you won't earn a sign-up bonus. Nor will you receive a 0% introductory APR.
These offers have become pretty standard for unsecured credit cards. They are rare -- but not unheard of -- among secured cards. Given the robust purchase rewards from this secured card, the lack of a bonus is not surprising.
The U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card does not have a minimum credit score for approval. This is a secured credit card, so it's made for people who are building or rebuilding credit.
Choose the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Secured Card if you need to build credit, but still want to earn rewards points. You'll get up to 4x points per dollar on many everyday purchases. Plus you'll pay no annual fee. It does a high have a minimum deposit requirement, though, so you may want to look at other options if you intend to deposit a smaller amount. But it's still a very good option for credit builders.
