Jerry is an app that helps drivers compare car insurance coverage from over 50 insurers. The app is free to use and has other useful functions, such as help in finding car repair shops and rewards earned on good driving. However, because it doesn't have every car insurance company in its database, its results may not show the cheapest policy for a driver's desired coverage. Keep reading this Jerry review to find out what more this app has to offer.

Bottom Line

Jerry is an insurance comparison app that helps drivers find good rates for their desired coverage. Although it can find affordable rates, it doesn't check prices at every car insurance company, which could exclude great insurers from its comparisons. Likewise, drivers are often "denied" insurance through the app, even though they have good driving records. Overall, it can be a good tool to utilize, but isn't powerful enough to replace one's own research.

Pros

  • Generates quotes quickly
  • Notifies drivers of lower rates periodically
  • No spam calls
  • Finds cheap car insurance coverage

Cons

  • Quotes limited to a small pool of insurance companies
  • Partners often decline to give quotes

What is Jerry and how does it work?

Jerry is an insurance platform and app whose primary function is to compare car insurance rates and match drivers with the cheapest insurers. Jerry can also help drivers refinance car loans, diagnose car problems, find reputable car repair shops, and earn rewards on good driving. In essence, the app can be broken down into the following features:

  • PriceProtect™: Helps drivers compare car insurance companies, as well as get help with auto loan refinancing.
  • DriveShield™: Tracks driving, offers tips, and rewards safe driving habits.
  • GarageGuard™: Helps drivers figure out car problems, gives repair estimates, and recommends repair shops.

To compare car insurance quotes with PriceProtect™, Jerry will gather information about a driver, their vehicles, and their driving history. After some data crunching, Jerry will then show drivers a selection of car insurance companies. If a driver sees one they like, they can then choose to purchase a policy directly through the app.

Top perks of Jerry

Generates quotes in seconds

The app is very fast. It takes such little time to generate quotes, drivers can have a full list in just minutes. Jerry also makes it easy to compare these quotes by arranging them neatly within the app. For example, drivers can compare companies by their basic plans (those that meet state minimums), by full coverage, or by a customer plan that they make.

Get notified of rate changes

Jerry checks car insurance rates for its drivers twice a year and will notify them if a better deal exists with another insurer. This can help drivers save money if Jerry can find the same coverage at a lower rate elsewhere.

No spam or cold calls

When I first used Jerry's app, I was afraid I would get bombarded with phone calls from car insurance companies. But no such calls came. In fact, while Jerry does occasionally send text messages notifying me of cheaper premiums, it doesn't give my information to its partner insurance companies. This requires less hassle than requesting quotes online, which often result in unwanted calls.

It can find cheap car insurance

Although it has limitations, the app will find cheap car insurance for most drivers.

For one, many of the car insurance companies within Jerry's database are not ones the average driver would look for on their own. While it has nationally recognized brands, like Geico, it has other reputable companies with regional influence that drivers may not know.

Even for nationally recognized brands, the app can sometimes get a lower price than what a driver would find on their own. For example, the app claims it can get me Geico car insurance for $90 monthly. Meanwhile, Geico has given me a direct quote for the same coverage of $110 monthly. That's a savings of $20 monthly or $240 per year, all for buying the same coverage through the Jerry app.

What could be improved

Small sampling of car insurance companies

Jerry doesn't check rates at every car insurance company, only those with which it has a partnership. So while its quote generator can be helpful, it shouldn't be mistaken as a complete analysis of the auto insurance industry. In fact, since many great insurance companies are left out of its database, it's possible that drivers could find better insurance rates through their own research.

Doesn't show quotes for all its insurance companies

Even though Jerry has partnered with over 50 insurance companies, drivers won't be shown quotes from all these insurers. While some of this has to do with coverage limits and region, sometimes the insurance company itself denies Jerry users a quote without stating a reason. For example, I have a perfect driving record, yet was denied a quote by three of the seven insurance companies with which I matched.

How much does Jerry cost?

Jerry is free to use. Similar to an independent insurance agent or broker, Jerry doesn't charge commissions to customers but rather receives them from insurance partners.

Customer service and ratings

Jerry currently has an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau, though its accreditation is still pending. It also has 4.6 out of 5 stars on the Apple App Store and 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google Play. Users can contact Jerry's customer service from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET seven days a week.

When looking for an auto insurer who offers affordable coverage: Geico frequently ranks high among cheap car insurance companies. Its average rates are below the national average for nearly every driver persona, including those who have DUIs, speeding tickets, and accidents.

When looking for an auto insurer who offers pay-per-mile coverage. Metromile offers cheap coverage to drivers with low monthly mileage. Drivers will pay a base rate and a per-mile rate, both of which could be cheaper than buying traditional coverage.

Jerry summary

Jerry might be best suited for people who:

  • Are on the hunt for the cheapest car insurance policy for their coverage
  • Want to compare car insurance quotes within seconds
  • Don't mind sharing information with a tech company

When shopping for cheap car insurance, Jerry is a great tool to leverage. However, since it doesn't pull quotes from every insurance company, it may leave out insurers whose prices are lower for certain drivers.
