Ducks Unlimited probably isn't the first name that comes to mind when you want to get a new credit card. The nonprofit organization's mission is to protect wetlands and waterfowl, and one way it does that is through its cash back card, the Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa® Card. There's no annual fee, and you don't need to be a member of the organization to apply.

With an unlimited 1.5% cash back, this card could be very valuable. But it's also light on extra features, so it may lack some of the benefits you want. To see if it's worth getting, learn more about the Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa® Card in our review.

Full Ducks Unlimited Card review

This credit card is a good fit for: People who support the Ducks Unlimited organization. Everyone else should consider shopping around for credit cards with better benefits.

Top perks

No annual fee: There's no fee to carry this card. No-annual-fee cards are a smart choice if you're looking to avoid an extra expense.

Unlimited 1.5% back: The unlimited cash back rewards program is this card's standout perk.

Funds wetland conservation efforts: Ducks Unlimited uses a portion of purchases made with this card to help conserve and restore wetlands. It should be noted that this is a hunting-oriented organization. Hunters founded the organization and comprise most of its members. It focuses on maintaining habitats in part for hunting purposes because a healthy habitat is more likely to have a strong waterfowl population.

What could be improved

No 0% intro APR: Many cash back credit cards offer a 0% intro APR on purchases or balance transfers. The Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa® Card doesn't offer one, so it's a poor choice if you're looking for a credit card to finance expenses or consolidate credit card debt.

No sign-up bonus: One of the biggest drawbacks of this card is that it doesn’t offer any sort of bonus for new cardholders. Sign-up bonuses can provide quite a bit of value, but you'll need to look elsewhere if a bonus is important to you.

Inconvenient cash back redemptions: Ducks Unlimited hasn't come up with the most customer-friendly way to get your cash back. You can only redeem your cash back in the following denominations: $25, $50, $100, $250, and $1,000. That means any time your total cash back isn't a multiple of $25, you won't be able to redeem all of it.

Let's say you have $196 in cash back. You could make redemptions of $100, $50, and $25, for a total of $175. But that leaves $21 you can't touch for the time being. It'd be much simpler for cardholders if Ducks Unlimited didn't have these restrictions.

Foreign transaction fee: On foreign transactions, this card charges an additional fee of 3% of the transaction amount in U.S. dollars. If you plan to travel outside the country, travel credit cards are a better choice to avoid paying extra on your purchases.

Suggested credit score

The Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa® Card is for consumers with good credit, and we recommend you have a credit score of at least 670 if you're going to apply.

Keep in mind that there's more to credit card applications than just your credit score. The card issuer will review your entire credit history and other financial information, such as your income, to decide whether to approve you for a card. A high credit score helps, but it's not the only factor that matters.

This card is right for you if:

The Ducks Unlimited Rewards Visa® Card could work for cardholders wanting a one-card wallet with a simple rewards program. That said, it lacks the well-rounded perks offered with the best credit cards, which is where we think many applicants should begin their search for a better card.

Our credit card methodology

At The Motley Fool Ascent, we rate credit cards on a five-star scale (1 = poor, 5 = best). Our rating criteria includes rewards rates, welcome bonuses, fees, and perks like travel credits and 0% intro APR offers to evaluate our ratings.

We combine these factors with an evaluation of brand reputation and customer satisfaction to ensure you're getting the best card recommendations. Learn more about how The Ascent rates credit cards.
