Bottom Line

Dairyland offers comprehensive policies backed by strong customer service, but a few things hold it back from being competitive with the top auto insurers. Its rates are above-average for many drivers and the insurer lacks many common discounts. But drivers with customized vehicles might be willing to pay extra for its special parts coverage.

Pros

  • Convenient online and mobile tools
  • Flexible payment options
  • Great customer service

Cons

  • Expensive policies
  • Few auto insurance discounts

Monthly premium costs

Dairyland's monthly premium costs were much higher than the rates we've seen with some national insurers. This was especially true for drivers with accidents on their record and younger drivers.

Cost comparison

Dairyland auto insurance is above the national average for most drivers, though this doesn't mean that will be the case for a specific applicant. The following table shows how Dairyland's average annual premium compares to the national average for several common driver profiles.

Dairyland Auto Insurance Average Rate National Average Rate
Clean Driving Record $3,041 $2,389
Accident on Record $4,172 $3,370
Speeding Ticket on Record $3,791 $3,032

Military Service $2,990 $2,375
Minimum Coverage (Liability Only) $942 $787

Discounts

Dairyland has relatively few discounts compared to many of its competitors. The ones it does offer are pretty common, like multi-car and homeowners discounts. Those who qualify for one or more of these discounts will receive a lower rate on their premiums. Here's a full list of all the Dairyland auto insurance discounts available:

  • Advanced quote discount
  • Anti-theft device discount
  • Defensive driving discount
  • Homeowners discount
  • Multi-car discount
  • Payment frequency discount
  • Transfer discount

Coverage

Policy types

  • ATV insurance
  • Auto insurance
  • Dirt bike insurance
  • Mexico auto insurance
  • Motorcycle insurance
  • Non-owner car insurance
  • RV insurance
  • Snowmobile insurance
  • UTV insurance

Dairyland doesn't offer the variety of insurance that some of its competitors do. But its selection of vehicle insurance types is fairly comprehensive. It's missing boat coverage. That said, it will definitely be considered one of the best car insurance companies by those interested in its rarer policy options, like dirt bike insurance.

Coverage types

  • Bodily injury liability
  • Collision
  • Comprehensive
  • Lienholder
  • Medical payments
  • Property damage liability
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Rental car reimbursement
  • Roadside assistance
  • Special equipment
  • Uninsured motorist
  • Underinsured motorist

Dairyland offers all the standard auto insurance coverage required by law. It also has a few common add-ons, like rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance. Its rarest coverage option is special equipment coverage. This pays to repair or replace certain equipment drivers add to their vehicles after they've purchased them.

Customer service and ratings

Dairyland hasn't appeared in any national customer satisfaction surveys. This makes it challenging to measure how its customer service stacks up to some of its competitors.

That said, the reviews that are out there are largely positive. It has a 4.5 out of 5 rating from over 8,000 customers on Trustpilot and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Other insurance available

  • Dairyland renters insurance

Dairyland offers a pretty comprehensive slate of vehicle insurances, but so far, it hasn't branched out far beyond this. Its only other offering is renters insurance, so it may not be the right choice for those seeking to bundle their home and auto insurance with one company.

If excellent customer service is a top priority: State Farm is one of the industry leaders in customer satisfaction. It's scored high in every region of the J.D. Power U.S. Auto Insurance Satisfaction survey that it appeared in. It also offers more optional coverages than Dairyland. But it doesn't offer a comparable option for special equipment.

If low cost matters most: Progressive offers affordable base rates and plenty of discounts to help drivers save. It has appeared in more customer satisfaction surveys than Dairyland, but its customer reviews aren't as impressive.
